Description
At a viewer's request, Phillip Sear plays his short arrangement of a melody by the Latgalian composer, conductor, writer, and music teacher Antons Matvejāns (1937-)
------------------------------------------
The viewer writes: “The Aglona Basilica is the only church in Latvia that has been granted the status of basilica minor by the Vatican (in 1980). It is not only a church but also a nationally significant place of pilgrimage.
Every year on August 15th, tens of thousands of believers gather in Aglona to honour the Virgin Mary” Latgale (also known as Latgalia) is the easternmost region of Latvia, located north of the Daugava River. It is a landlocked area that shares international borders with Russia and Belarus. Latgale is known as “The Land of Blue Lakes” due to its large number of lakes, including Latvia's second-biggest lake, Lake Rāzna.
My arrangement of the melody is very simple, with a short introduction and coda in the style of 19th century Slavic romances.
