Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole (Oahu, May 20, 1959 - Honolulu, June 26, 1997) was a celebrated Hawaiian singer and musician, known by the nicknames Bruddah Iz, Bradda IZ, or simply IZ. He gained fame in 1993 with the release of his album Facing Future, featuring his iconic medley of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World," accompanied solely by his ukulele. This rendition became widely popular and was featured in several film soundtracks.

Despite his immense talent, IZ struggled with severe obesity, weighing 340 kg at a height of 188 cm, which highlighted the contrast between his large stature and the small ukulele he played. He passed away from respiratory problems at the age of 38, prompting a day of mourning in Hawaii, with flags at half-mast. Over 10,000 fans paid tribute to him at the Capitol Building in Honolulu, and his ashes were scattered in the ocean at Makua Beach. Known as "The Good Giant," IZ was beloved for his smile, optimism, and deep love for his land and people, and he is remembered as one of the last full-blooded Hawaiians.
