Practicing some ideas on "Stablemates" by Benny Golson. Haven't been practicing much straight ahead stuff recently, so it's fun to get the fingers going on something that moves a little weird. Guitar is a custom "Blacktop" by Alexander Polyakov that I just got a few weeks back. I love having a floating pickup- I like the way it makes my articulation sound more than fixed pickups on archtops. The neck is also massive- 1.35" from the nut to heel- Alexander made my blue Jaguar with the same profile and I loved it so asked that he use it on this one too.

I used to play this tune a lot, and transcribed a couple solos on it a few years ago to get a handle on the changes- Blue Mitchell, Walter Smith III, and Roy Hargrove. I might do another "Improv Study" vid on this take later this month.
